In Netmaker, default devices are those automatically connected to any new network created within the platform. These devices—often servers or key nodes—are pre-configured to automatically join new networks without needing manual intervention, streamlining the process of scaling and managing mesh networks.

How Default Devices Work in Netmaker

Automatic Network Connection:

When a new network is created, default devices instantly connect to it without additional configuration. This ensures critical devices stay connected across new networks.

Simplified Network Setup:

Network administrators don’t have to manually add devices to new networks. Default devices are automatically included when a new network is created, saving time and reducing errors.

How to Make a Device a Default Device in Netmaker:

  1. Log into the Netmaker Dashboard:
Access the Netmaker Dashboard where your devices (or nodes) are managed.

  2. Select the Device:
Choose the device you want to set as a default device from the list of available devices, in this quick guide we will make the web-prod as a default device

  3. Edit Device Settings:
Hover over the three dots and select Edit to access the configuration options, or click on the device, hover over Device Settings, and click Edit.

  4. Go to Device Settings and Enable Default Device Option

Click on "Go to Device Settings" and look for the setting labeled “Default Device”.

  5. Enable the Default Device toggle and click Update Device.
